A weekend away · Big Sur

Mara & Jonah

Not a night out — a weekend. Two nights on the Big Sur coast for their tenth: a cliffside room above the Pacific, one unhurried day in between, and a slow morning before the drive home.

Two nights on the Big Sur coast.

    Getaway · Big Sur

    Post Ranch Inn

Big Sur · cliffside above the Pacific

Two nights in a room perched 1,200 feet over the ocean — no clocks, no TVs, just fog, redwoods, and the water. The base for the whole weekend.

    Two nights, unhurried

    1. The evening you arrive

Arrive Friday as the light goes long — drop the bags, then dinner over the water at Sierra Mar with nowhere to be after.

    2. The day in between

A whole Saturday on the coast: McWay Falls in the morning, the drive up to Bixby Bridge, an afternoon that drifts toward sunset.

    3. The morning home

A slow Sunday — breakfast with the view at Nepenthe, then Highway 1 south in no particular hurry. You'll talk about it for a year.

Why this night

You told us the last few years have been all logistics — work, the kids, a calendar with no white space. So this isn't another dinner squeezed into a Saturday; it's two nights with nothing on the agenda, somewhere the phone loses signal and the only plan is each other. The room faces the water on purpose, and the one reservation we made is the kind you linger over.

Don't forget the small things

  • Book Sierra Mar early

Non-guests and prime sunset tables go weeks out — lock it before you drive.

  • A full tank + a playlist

The last stretch of Highway 1 has no gas and no signal. Both, on purpose.

  • A layer for the deck

The fog turns the evenings cool, even in summer. Worth the extra sweater.

A sample two-night trip we built for a fictional couple — so you can see how Swun plans a weekend away, not just a night out. The stay and dining links below are live. Prices are estimates. You book the stay and the table directly — Swun never sits between you and the reservation.
